Melissa Peters is a New York State licensed acupuncturist. She practices acupuncture, herbal medicine, eastern holistic nutrition, and therapeutic tuina massage. She has a general family practice that includes treatments focusing on pain, emotional imbalance, female gynecological conditions, and autoimmune disease. Her knowledge and studies of Traditional Chinese Medicine is one that treats the whole body and not just symptoms. Melissa’s treatments are individualized and tailored to fit each patient’s unique makeup and health needs.
Melissa has always had a passion to help others improve their quality of life. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2003. During that time she studied under a professor whom had been cured from an illness through diet, herbs, and lifestyle changes. This fueled her desire to further her education in nutrition, herbs, acupuncture, and alternative medicine. Instead of focusing exclusively on counseling, she decided to embrace a holistic approach to helping people both physically and emotionally.
Melissa went on to study Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego. In 2006, Melissa became a holistic health practitioner and began to practice massage therapy and bodywork. She continued her studies in acupuncture and herbal medicine and completed her internship from the Pacific College campus in New York City in 2010. Melissa was fortunate to treat hundreds of patients while an intern in many different settings. She worked as an intern in a family recovery center for women, a homeless clinic in San Diego, and a very busy clinic at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in NYC.
In 2011, Melissa opened up Wellspring of Life Acupuncture clinic in Commack, NY. The name ‘Wellspring of Life’ comes from a popular proverb that states: “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” She chose that name because her beliefs are centered on the concept that mind/body/spirit are not separate. All aspects must be in balance to achieve a healthy and fruitful life. She is very passionate about helping others reach their health goals.
